Used Golf Ball Grading

If you're looking to save money on those expensive golf balls there is a way: by used golf balls for about a quarter of the price that you would pay for if they were new. Not all used golf balls are created equal, some are near-perfect and some are horribly damaged. Now, of course near-perfect golf balls are going to fetch a higher price and really damaged golf balls are going to fetch a lower price.
Most used golf balls are graded using the A system. Quadruple AAAA's (also known as near mint) used golf balls are the highest quality used ball you can buy. Single A used golf balls are the most damaged ball you can buy. These golf balls are great for practice. In the list below you can see how each grade of golf ball is determined. I should mention that there is no official used golf ball grading system this is just the most common grading system out there.

GRADING OF GOLF BALLS
MINT:
* It is very close to a new ball
* Small pen markings are possible on the balls
* They are very closer to a perfect condition and are high quality balls
* Almost flawless with minor imperfections
* They are consistent in color and shine
* The x-out’s and practice balls are not included in this category.
AAA:
* They may have a small scuff and small imperfections.
* Buyers may find slight tanning on some of the balls received.
* They are on par with MINT balls in quality
* The only exception found with the MINT balls is that, AAA balls are tanned or off in color
* A golfer can bargain to the maximum extent. They are perfect for the golfer who prefers only performance and not the cosmetics of the ball.
* They are blemished.
* They look similar to the ones played after 3-5 holes.
* The surface marks will not affect the trajectory, distance or flight path of the ball.
* The x-out’s and practice balls are not included in this category
* No cuts will be found in AAA golf balls.

AA:
* A playable ball.
* Excellent for high handicap and for a beginner.
* It can be best used for the dreaded water hazards
* They have minor imperfections
* Have discoloration
* They have flaws like scuffing, player markings and other club marks.
* X-out’s and practice balls are included
* They also include some of the AAA balls and lower grade balls
* Noticeable flaws but still playable.
* It is most appropriate for green practices.
* This looks similar to a ball that was played for 18 holes.
A:
* They constitute the biggest percentage of golf balls
* They are designated for personal practice
* They have color damage, scuffing and club marks
* They do not have any cuts
* They have moderate surface blemishes
* They look similar to balls that are played after 9 or more holes.
* Not affected by trajectory, distance and have a nice flight path of the ball
* X-outs and practice balls are not included in the list.
B:
* They have cuts and are great for river.
* Meant for target practice
* Have heavy surface blemishes and other marks.
* They are known as SHAG ball.
* Include x-out’s and practice balls.
